ZIP Code Level Growth in Plan Selection Between OEP1 and OEP2

ASPE released new data for the states using the HealthCare.gov platform to process enrollment in their Health Insurance Marketplace. We now have information on the number of qualified health plan (QHP) selections for the first two open enrollment time periods (OEP):

OEP 1: October 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014 and
OEP 2: November 15, 2014 to February 15, 2015.

SHADAC developed an interactive map with plan selection at the ZIP Code level. The shading represents the change in Marketplace selections between OEP 1 and OEP 2 (the darker the shade, the greater the increase).You can click on a ZIP Code to see the change in qualified health plan selections (both number and percent).

A few highlights:

The HealthCare.gov platform continues to play an important role in coverage for key southern states which have traditionally had relative high rates of uninsurance. The top three states with the largest increase in the number of plan selections were Florida, Texas and Georgia.
The largest increase in the number of plan selections between the two time periods occurred in 5 ZIP Codes in the Greater Miami area.
The top 5 cities with the largest increase in the number of plan selections included: Miami, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale in Florida; San Antonio and Houston in Texas.

Data is only available at the ZIP Code level for those states that used the HealthCare.gov platform to process enrollment in their health insurance marketplaces in both OEP 1 and OEP 2.
