SHADAC’s State Health Compare now includes data on sales of the prescription opioid painkillers oxycodone and hydrocodone.1
Prescription sales data are available for each state and the nation from 2000 through 2016 and are measured in annual kilograms of oxycodone and hydrocodone sold per 100,000 people.
Data Highlight: Oxycodone Sales, 2000 to 2016
The data indicate that prescription oxycodone sales tripled nationwide between 2000 and 2016. Sales in six states—Kansas, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, and Wyoming—increased five-fold during this time (see figure).
