June 21, 2010. The National Center for Health Statistics released its report, "Health Insurance Coverage: Early Release of Estimates from the National Health Interview Survey, 2009." The estimates of health insurance coverage are the first national estimates released for 2009. The report includes estimates for the US and for the 20 most populated states.
Key Findings: The number of people in the U.S. without health insurance coverage increased by 2.5 million people with 46.3 million uninsured in 2009. The rate of uninsurance for children remained stable at 8.2% but the rate increased significantly for working-aged (18-64) adults from 19.7% in 2008 to 21.1% in 2009.
