MACPAC Reports Publish State-level Data

June 30, 2011

June 30, 2011:  Two newly released reports by the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC) feature state level data.  Included are 21 data items such as CHIP spending, optional Medicaid benefits, enrollees, benefit spending, among others.

SHADAC compiled a summary of state-level data and information released by MACPAC in the Medicaid and CHIP Program Statistics (MACStats) section of the March and June 2011 MACPAC reports to Congress.

This summary serves as a quick reference tool for state analysts and policymakers.  The tables identified in this document provide state-level information about Medicaid/CHIP enrollment, spending, benefit levels, and managed care status.

The Commission submits reports to the Congress on March 15 and June 15 of each year. The reports provide the Congress with a better understanding of the Medicaid and CHIP programs, their roles in the U.S. health care system, and the key policy and data issues to be addressed to guide policies outlined in the Commission’s statutory charge.  MACStats presents baseline data used in MACPAC’s analytic framework, providing information on key program features such as eligibility, enrollment, spending, and characteristics of individuals with disabilities.

MACPAC was established in the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009 (CHIPRA) and its charge was later revised in the Affordable Care Act of 2010. The Commission is a non-partisan, federal, analytic support agency and resource charged with providing policy and data analysis to the Congress on Medicaid and CHIP, and for making recommendations to the Congress and the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services on a wide range of issues affecting these programs.
