Enrollment in private health plans in the Health Care Marketplace continues to grow, reaching 3.3 million at the end of January 2014 - half way to reaching the revised CBO enrollment target of 6 million by the end of open enrollment in March 31, 2014. A few states continue to struggle, but I know staff on the ground are working 'round the clock to fix the glitches. I sort of off-handedly suggested that it’s time for the feds to send in a SWAT team to help states that are still struggling with their HIT vendors, but maybe that’s just what’s needed. There must be a better workaround than resorting to filling out paper applications?! The next “bugaboo” is to determine whether new enrollees were previously uninsured. Well, NY’s health care marketplace-–NY State of Health-–reports that 2/3rds of new enrollees were previously uninsured. Stay tuned. In the meantime, check out the new enrollment numbers here.
