December 14, 2011

The National Center for Health Statistics released new health insurance coverage estimates showing that, from January through June 2011, 46.6 million people (15.3%) in the United States were uninsured.  The report, "Health Insurance coverage: Early Release of Estimate from the National Health Interview Survey, January-June 2011," provides estimates by type of coverage, by age, and by poverty status.  Among young adults (ages 19-25), uninsurance rates decreased from 33.9% in 2010 to 28.8% for the first half of 2011.  State-level estimates are not available on this report.
