2010 American Community Survey Estimates Released

September 22, 2011

The Census Bureau released health insurance coverage estimates from the American Community Survey (ACS) showing 47.2 million people  (15.5%) in the United States were uninsured in 2010.  This change is a significant increase from the 2009 estimates of 45.7 million (15.1%) uninsured.

Published estimates are currently available only in table form from American Factfinder.  Public use microdata will be available in about a month.

The Census Bureau also released a brief based on estimates from the ACS, "Health Insurance Coverage of Workers Aged 18 to 64, by Work Experience: 2008 and 2010."  This brief profiles changes in employer-sponsored coverage by employment characteristics and by state.

Estimates from the ACS and Current Population Survey (released earlier this month) will be presented and discussed in SHADAC's webinar on September 23.  Register now for the webinar.
