This project will inform policymakers about the costs and benefits of implementing an expansion of the Medicaid program. Using data from the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP), and state geocodes, the researchers will evaluate how a state's decision to expand or not expand Medicaid affects (1) insurance coverage; (2) access to care and patterns of care-seeking behavior; and (3) health status, including mental health.
